“embrace the chaos that is your love, there you will find peace”
Finding the perfect location for your engagement session can be difficult, especially one that doesn't have a hefty permit price tag attached to it. Toronto has a few hidden gems, and Osgoode Hall is one of them. Set in the heart of the business district, these historic law buildings, erected in the mid 19th century, transcend time and transport you to a peaceful European inspired square.
The stately backdrop is still a functional law institution and photography is only permitted on the exterior grounds. Surrounded by a wrought iron fence, this sprawling property takes up an entire city block. Stroll through the grassy lawns, amongst the gardens, or take respite on the cobble stones and steps leading up to this grand building.
Let's explore M + G's engagement shoot taken here this past May, 2025.
Beating the crowds
As Ogoode Hall is one of the few downtown Toronto locations that do not require a photography permit for couples, be sure to plan your session accordingly as it can get quite busy. The building is located next to city hall and is a favourite spot for portraits for those having a civil ceremony downtown.
The best times of day are early morning at sunrise, or mid-day during the week. Weekend foot traffic can depend on festivals and activities at Toronto City Hall.
It's a spot that's worth the wait!
